Girl, don’t do that! (A poem)

“Girl, what is it this?” She would say,
In reply, it would tell, “Mom, it is ‘A’,”
“Mom” would smile, “it has been long since that day,”
Aware of her child being prepared for a fray.

The Girl is five, she goes to school,
She can make sentences and is not a fool,
She is ambitious and has the drool,
But could she make it out of the rule?

The Girl has grown, she goes to college,
The time is crucial to gain some knowledge,
But can she ask for consent, does she have the courage,
Needed to pursue her dreams, her preferred voyage?

Amassing the strength, the Girl confronts her mom,
And asks, “I want a job and a dress for the prom,”
“Girl, don’t do that!” She would stress,
Now, the Girl ponders, “Was it about the job or the dress?”
