Taking a break from Medium, not writing

Hey, everyone! I hope wherever you are — whatever condition you are in — whoever you are with — and whatever you are doing, you are happy. This is me, Jyotirmoy Halder, the founder and the only writer of “The Sunday Hazard”, the blog where I — over the last few months — have shared my experiences in different stages of my life, my personal views on different matters, and also published a few poems/short stories that just pop up in my mind out of nowhere. You can all check those out here. I am not trying to justify their credibility as top-notch stuff, as I know you would not like some of the pieces that I have done over these months. I don’t, either. But, some of them are definitely worth your time.

The start to this piece might have left you assuming that this is an ending note here. No, I am not leaving Medium; I am not leaving ‘The Sunday Hazard’. I am just taking a break from it, a short one, why? It is not about gaining followers on a regular basis, and I would like to put the utmost emphasis on that. Nevertheless, it is about me failing to cope with the onus of time management. Let me be more transparent here.

So, as some of you may know, I want to be a Sports journalist someday. But just saying that particular phrase would provide me with the opportunity to become the one I crave, gain the status I desire, and make the reputation I intend to build. I will have to snatch my moment, the chances. I will have to read the signs (as “Santiago” from “The Alchemist” had done) to find my box of jewels.

As some of you may also know, I did my graduation in English Literature (Hons.). While I have the highest frame of respect for every language in the universe, I have decided against pursuing my master’s degree in the same field. Doing M.A. in English Literature would not help me become a Sports journalist. Instead, a journalism degree indeed would. Therefore, I am willing to do my post-graduation in English journalism at one of the best institutions in India, IIMC (Indian Institute of Mass Communication).

To go there, I will have to crack an entrance exam first, which will be held before August 2022. So, I don’t have much time to goof around. The publishing date of this piece is 12th June 2022. My preparation for the exam, if truth to be told, has been decent so far. But I want to give it my best shot and prepare for the exam in a way I have never done in my life. I want to go all gun blazing in the exam hall with a dormant desire to top the list, above all other candidates. To get the coveted result, I will have to keep pushing harder and harder. I am desperate and obsessed with the goal.

Writing has always been an integral part of my life. It is for writing what I have become today. I will not leave Medium to do my casual, non-professional writing. But I will take a break of perhaps one-and-a-half months or maybe two months. Although I only write one piece per week here, I think preparing for my ultimate goal with the aid of that time could benefit me in a much better way. It is not as if I will take a break from writing completely. I will try to continue writing for my clients as much as I can, but it will be limited, of course. That said, I hope to start again here very soon! Wishing you all the very best in your desired endeavour, I, Jyotirmoy Halder, am signing off for the time being.

:)
